Google Cloud Platform faced technical problems that cause outages for Google Networking, App Engine, and Stackdriver. This resulted in causing major headaches for some of the most popular apps that include Snapchat, Pokémon Go, Discord and Spotify. All these services went down for portions of the Tuesday afternoon after an unspecified issue with Google Cloud Platform.
As per Google Cloud’s status page, the hour-long issue began at 12:35 p.m PT and the cause of the issue is still unclear. Whatever the issue though, it has affected many apps which rely on Google’s services for back-end infrastructure. Many of the services took to Twitter to notify users about the downtime and request users to keep patience as they try to solve the problem.
Discord, Snapchat, Spotify and Pokémon Go took to Twitter and said the respective services are experiencing problems. Discord tweeted they have identified the connectivity issue and are in touch with Google Cloud Services. Snapchat said – Many Snapchatters are having trouble using the app as well as the support site and that they are working with their partners on the fix. Discord confirmed the issues was with Google outage while Snapchat did not reveal the name of the partner. Pokémon Go and Spotify also confirmed the problems but did not cite Google particularly. Later, Google confirmed its service had been restored fully and said the cause is still unclear. Further, the company said it will conduct an internal investigation of the issue and make suitable improvements to the system.
